At Elvetiko Diagnostic Center we have upgraded CT SCAN SIEMENS SOMATON 64 SLICE.

It works with ionizing radiation (x-rays), with the help of the scanner where it depicts organs of the body in cross sections (axial) which it captures in digital form. The information is displayed by the detector, then 3D coronary and sagittal coronal are processed to detect abnormalities in places that were not visible on plain X-ray.

Computed tomography examination is rapid, immediate, and important in diagnosing cerebral hemorrhage, pulmonary embolism, aneurysm, and fracture diagnosis. It is important that the patient remains still during the examination and depending on the area of the examination should hold his breath for a while to achieve better image quality.

The CT scanner allows us for detailed images of the body, which in some cases gives us very thin sections of 0.6 mm. There are two types of tests, the simple ones that do not require the administration of a contrast agent (iodine contrast agent) and the ones that are needed. [The contrast agent can cause allergic reactions so you should be aware of any allergies. People who have a problem with kidney function after consultation with the doctor are given the appropriate preparation so as not to burden the patient. The rest of the patients must always have recent blood tests (urea, creatinine) before each axial with contrast agent]

What you need to know before examining using a contrast agent

  • Allergy to drugs (contrast, iodine)
  • If the patient has diabetes mellitus (metformin) it should be stopped 2 days before the examination and one after
  • Blood tests for urea and creatinine within normal limits
  • Fasting 5 hours before the examination
  • After the administration of the contrast agent, the patient is forbidden to consume egg, chocolate fish.

In certain examinations, in addition to the preparation for the contrast agent, there is also a gastrographin that you use (Axial Upper Lower Abdominal). The patient comes to the centre one day before the examination and takes a bottle of water that contains the medicine. The patient goes to the toilet before starting the gastrofin and then should not go again until the examination is completed. Two hours before the test, he starts taking the medicine, every quarter he drinks a glass.
